Reno Cigar Lions Launch Computers for Kids Program

Reno Cigar Lions
Computers for Kids
Goals and Guidelines

The Reno Cigar Lions Club (RCL) was established in June, 2006 as a Branch Club to the Reno Host Lions (RHL). RCL's focus project is to procure, refurbish and distribute - at no cost - computers (with open source operating system, browser and office productivity software) through sponsoring organizations such as non-profits, schools and churches for "Cyber Community Centers" and to qualifying young people seeking to further their education.

The target demographic of this project is defined as follows:

* Young people in the K - 16 age group currently residing within the Truckee Meadows.

* Students of an accredited Nevada school, home schooled or church school.

* Students seeking alternative education opportunities (GED, etc.).

* Young people and students meeting the above criteria who cannot otherwise afford to purchase computers for themselves.

Participation in the Computers for Kids project is voluntary and is at the sole discretion of the Reno Cigar Lions. Participants must be sponsored by a non-profit, church or other acceptable (at the sole discretion of the Reno Cigar Lions) youth or education group. The sponsoring entity assumes full responsibility for selecting qualifying students/young people, monitoring compliance with and certifying continued participation in RCL's Computers for Kids project. The sponsoring entity is encouraged to develop youth oriented community service projects (or equivalent) in order to promote volunteerism among the participants in RCL's Computers for Kids project.
