Q SETTLE an argument, what are the limits for bringing alcohol and tobacco into Britain from abroad? - S. Lennox, Aberdeen.
A IF you are travelling into the UK from another EU country there is techincally no limit to the amount of duty-free alcohol and tobacco you can bring back, provided it is for your own personal use.
But Customs will become suspicious of anyone coming back with particularly large quantities.
The government's Revenue and Customs website states you are likely to be quizzed if you have more than 3200 cigarettes, 200 cigars, 3kg tobacco, 110 litres of beer, 90 litres of wine or 10 litres of spirits. There are exceptions, though, so to check out all the latest information by logging on to customs.hmrc.gov.uk and choose the travel home page then information for travellers.
