Last month, representatives from the Peace Corps’ Dominican Republic office toured the project and visited the neighboring communities. They announced that three Peace Corps members will be assigned to serve in the these communities.
On May 14, Valerie Julliand, the United Nation’s Resident Coordinator for the Dominican Republic visited the project and was very impressed by work that is being done to serve the communities.

Health Center
Last month, 288 patients were treated in our medical and dental clinics. Students received doses of anti-parasitic medications to prevent diseases that are common to the region.

Community Development Programs
On Mother’s Day, we welcomed more than 300 mothers to the project with their children. They enjoyed presentations, poetry, music, and other activities.

Last month, 28 in-home water filters were delivered to families in the community of Los Arroyos. Since then, residents have reported that their health has improved.
Sports and Recreation
Our baseball teams are preparing for the 2009 Double A Superior Baseball Tournament where they were victorious last year.
Karate practices, organized by Cigar Family member Mr. Kaju, continue each Saturday. Team members have demonstrated their skills recently for visitors.

Agriculture and Aquaculture
A consultant from the Dominican Agriculture Institute visited the project to provide advice and guidance on sustainable farming. We are considering the addition of greenhouses to the organic farm.
Last month, eight sacks of corn were harvested, which will be used to provide nutritious meals to our students.
