As with most hobbies, the pleasure of cigars derives as much from the attendant paraphernalia as from the objects themselves. Decorative as well as functional, humidors often rank high on the wish lists of cigar aficionados.
Porsche's Design 50 Stick Carbon Fibre Wood Humidor is a sleek, curvaceous case that holds 50 cigars
and features a built-in humidifier and thermostat. The lustrous
black-carbon fiber is reminiscent of the humidor's elegant,
motor-driven cousin ($2,995; porschedesign.com). Louisiana-based
Heirloom Humidors offers a cabinet-style humidor as part of its
distinguished Revolutionary Series. The Revere is available in walnut,
cherry, oak or mahogany, customized and handcrafted in illustrious
detail. It features a beveled glass lid and extendable drawer, a door
seal and an adjustable shelf with box storage space underneath. A tiny
fan whirs almost soundlessly, as the Oasis II Humidifier maintains
humidity at a constant 70 percent. The Revere holds approximately 25
boxes of cigars
(from $3,695; heirloomhumidors.com). Swiss manufacturer Michel
Perrenoud has developed a mahogany and glass walk-in humidor whose
compact design makes it an easy addition to any home, though Perrenoud
created it for hotels and cigar bars. Indeed, the first installation was in the plush smoking
room of Switzerland's Lausanne Palace Hotel. The customizable interior
is completely humidity-controlled, and holds up to 10,000 smokes
($83,000 plus shipping and installation; www.michel-perrenoud.ch).
